Live Avatars

Live avatars turn a character's profile photo into a living portrait. Instead of a static image, you see the character gently breathe and move, so the moment you land on them they already feel present. This guide covers what they are, where they show up, and how they are made.

What Live Avatars Are

A live avatar is a short, silently looping video generated from a character's avatar photo. The AI takes the still portrait and brings it to life with subtle, natural motion — a soft breath, a small shift — while keeping the face and framing exactly as they were. Nothing about the character changes; the photo simply comes alive.

The result loops seamlessly and plays without sound, so it reads as a living presence rather than a clip. When a character has one, it plays automatically — you never need to press play.

You'll See Them In A Few Places

Live avatars appear throughout the app wherever a character does, and viewing them is open to everyone:

  • Browse a character card and hover over it — the portrait comes alive as you rest on it.
  • Open a character's profile and tap a photo to view it full screen. If a live avatar is ready, it plays gently over the still image.
  • Start a chat and the living portrait can fill the backdrop behind your conversation, so your companion feels there with you.

How They're Created

You can bring any of your own characters to life. On a character you created, open one of its profile photos to the full-screen view and find the Live Avatar panel beside it. Press the generate button and the AI renders the living version from that exact photo — it usually takes a few minutes, and you can leave the page and come back while it works.

Each generation costs 60 credits from your wallet. If a generation fails, the credits are refunded automatically. Want a fresh take later? You can regenerate — the new version replaces the old one, and each regeneration is a new 60-credit generation.

Once it finishes, the living portrait is saved to the character and plays automatically everywhere the character appears — cards, profile, and chat — for everyone who visits them.

You'll only see the generate option on characters you created; on everyone else's characters, you'll simply see their live avatar play.

Tips For The Best Result

Because a live avatar is built from a single photo, the source image matters more than anything else. A few things help:

  • Start from a sharp, well-lit portrait. Clear detail in the face gives the AI the most to work with.
  • Favor a head-and-shoulders framing where the character faces the camera. Front-facing portraits produce the most natural motion.
  • Keep the background simple. Busy or cluttered scenes pull focus from the character and can make the movement look less convincing.
  • Avoid dark, blurry, or heavily filtered photos — they tend to give weaker, less lifelike results.

Pick your strongest portrait and the living version will feel like a natural extension of it.
